Academy

Developing professionals in aquatic education

Training instructors to deliver consistent, safe and high-quality swim education.

The Wavement Academy is the training and development pillar of The Wavement.

It focuses on instructor onboarding, professional development and educational consistency.

The Academy does not replace existing qualifications.

It supports instructors in applying structured lessons, clear learning pathways and calm, safe teaching practices in daily lessons.

What the Academy focuses on Professional instructor development

The Academy supports instructors with:

  • clear lesson structure and learning goals
  • practical teaching methods for different age groups
  • calm and confident lesson delivery
  • consistent application of curriculum and lesson plans

The focus is on how lessons are taught, not on adding more theory.

How Academy is Used in Practise

The Wavement Academy is typically implemented:
  • as part of onboarding for new instructors
  • during team training and development days
  • alongside the use of The Wavement Studio and curriculum
  • as ongoing support, not as a one-off course
Training is practical, applicable and directly connected to daily lessons.

Relationship to Studio and Curriculum

The Wavement Academy works together with:

  • The Wavement Studio (visual lesson support and content)
  • Curriculum & Lesson Structure (learning pathways and progression)

Together, these elements form one integrated education system.

Beyond technical instruction

The Academy also supports a broader educational approach, including:

  • calm and confident behavior in and around water
  • awareness of safety beyond technique
  • professional responsibility in teaching environments

This aligns with initiatives such as Breathe – Water Safety Ambassadors, which focus on safe behavior beyond the pool.
