About Us
After more than 15 years of experience in the Aquatic industry, Ronald Brugmans decided to start the construction of an indoor public swimming pool.
In 2013, Swimming pool "De Smient" became the first swimming school in Europe to use the Starfish Aquatic Institute curriculum. Due to the many positive responses to the fantastic program, we continued with it and have grown into the European headquarters of the Starfish Aquatic Institute.
In addition to using the curriculum, we have been actively involved in innovation and carefully examining how the Aquatic industry can be improved. We teach techniques more effectively by utilizing modern technologies. The development of our unique Aquatic Screen has enabled us to offer On-Demand Aquatic sports and to display each stroke perfectly from different angles during swimming lessons, allowing participants to see clearly how to perform the stroke/exercise.
Safety in Aquatics is paramount, which is why we are partners with StarGuard Elite, and each staff member holds their StarGuard Elite Lifeguard certification.

Ellen Overes, Chief operation officer
Ellen, our Chief Operating Officer, brings valuable knowledge to The Wavement with her pedagogical background and experience in providing high-quality swimming lessons.
She has been in the swimming world for over 10 years at all different levels. As our COO, she is responsible for the daily management and planning of all staff. Her experience in the swimming world and pedagogy makes her an excellent people improver to ensure high quality.
Eldert Francke, Chief technology officer
Eldert, our Chief technology officer, brings more than 20 years of valuable experience in the field of technology.
He has been active in IT since 1994, with extensive and practical experience in workplace and system administration in both Microsoft and Novell environments. Set up service management systems at Fortune 500 companies and later focused on Linux distributions and web applications, brought his ability to adapt to technological trends and his pursuit of quality to The Wavement.
Endhi Houthuijsen, Process advisor
With more than 20 years of experience as a process manager, process architect, consultant and service manager, he translates practical working methods into logical processes. Based on his unique view and vision, he developed the SPOT methodology, which is based on the best practices he collected from more than 60 organizations from various industries. His advice and supervision guarantees the highest quality for our customers.
